Last Friday, a group of linguists from Howell’s Co-ed College visited the University of Bath, taking part in their annual Spotlight on Languages conference for schools in Wales and the South West of England. This was an excellent opportunity for our students to have a look at a prestigious university and to have a taster of lectures and seminars. Students had the opportunity to work on their A level languages; Spanish, German and French, as well as to have an introduction to Italian and to look at some aspects of culture and society such as the workings of French humour, and memory history and identity: remembering the First World War. Students heard from the Admissions Tutor for the Modern Languages and European Studies Course and from recent language graduates who talked about their career paths. All in all it was a very informative day!
