Spectacular supernova

Spectacular supernova

On Wednesday night, we enjoyed the last of this year's presentations in our College Lecture Programme for scholars in Years 12 and 13.

We were joined by Carys Evans from Cardiff University who is currently working on her PhD. Carys introduced the supernova as 'a new bright object in the sky' that might be what happens when a star dies. Explaining the two types of supernovae, thermo-nuclear and core collapse, she showed us a variety of images, describing them as 'balls of fire in space'. Many thanks to everyone who has supported the College Lecture Programme this year.

Congratulations also to Erin B, Amy D, Anna H, Fizzah I, Veda L, Abi M, Melinda N and Amelia S  for their commitment to our College Lecture Programme this year.
