The Howell’s Scholars’ Lecture Programme continued this week with a presentation from Professor Jeremy Strong who spoke on ‘Adaptation—more than literature on screen’. Professor Strong, who lectures in the University of West London, was greeted by a large audience of Year 12 and Year 13 students. The room was packed. Starting with adaptations of Austen’s novels for television and film, he continued to trace the presentations of favourite fictional characters such as Lara Croft and James Bond, exploring the way they can be changed to suit the audience of the time, almost taking on a life of their own. An enjoyable evening was had by all and we hope that Professor Strong will return to talk to future students.
