Kelly T awarded the ATCL (Associate of Trinity College London) Diploma in Violin Performance

Talented Year 12 Music Scholar, Kelly T, has just been awarded the ATCL (Associate of Trinity College London) Diploma in Violin Performance from Trinity College London.

The professional qualification, recognised worldwide, entitles Kelly to use the letters after her name, and is equivalent to the end of first year playing level for a student in a conservatoire or university.

A few days before the exam last December, Kelly performed her programme in Howell's Great Hall in a concert which also featured higher grade flutes. Pianist Giordano Ferla played with Kelly in both the concert and exam and said how much he had enjoyed their music-making.

The programme comprised: Beethoven’s Spring Sonata, Dvořák’s Allegro Maestoso and Allegro Appassionato from the Four Romantic pieces, Ravel’s Pièce en forme de Habanera, and Sarasate’s Romanza Andaluza.

Mr Christopher Horner, a visiting Violin Teacher at Howell's says “I have been teaching Kelly violin since she came to us from Hong Kong in Year 10. It has been a great pleasure to see her grow through the violin and music.

“Her contribution to the Music Department and school life has been outstanding. Outside school, she is a member of the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Youth Orchestra, touring Italy with them last summer. This term Kelly auditioned successfully for the National Youth Orchestra of Wales where she can look forward to working under prestigious conductors, playing challenging programmes, and further tours!"
