College lecture: Andrew Cook, The Gaseous Nature of Galaxies

On Wednesday 1st February, academic scholars and college students were invited to the first of the lectures in our Spring Term Programme. Andrew Cook, a research student from Cardiff University working towards his PhD in Astrophysics, shared both his knowledge and his enthusiasm as he presented a talk on The Gaseous Nature of Galaxies. Andy is investigating galaxy formation and evolution and his presentation ranged from the Big Bang to Leonardo da Vinci, mentioning our sky at night and speculating on the future of the universe by using computer simulations. On his journey through space and time he visited primordial black holes, supernovas and dark matter. He was helped by some members of Year 12.

The next lecture in the series will be on 8th February in The View at 3.45pm. It will be taken by Karen Kimura who will be introducing business concepts and talking about her own experiences as a successful entrepreneur in Sushi for Beginners.
