The regional final took place on Monday 25th November at Cardiff University. This national competition combines mathematical dexterity, communication and teamwork skills and offers students a way to develop their enjoyment of mathematics. It consists of a Group Round, Cross-Number and a Mini Relay. The students involved – Chris, Year 13, Ffion, Year 13, Lucy, Year 12 and Rookmini, Year 12 – have been studiously practising for the competition over the past few weeks. They performed very well on the day, particularly in the Group and Cross-Number rounds, putting them in contention for the top three places, and finishing a respectable 6th out of 15 schools. You could certainly feel the tension in the room as the students battled it out to solve these highly challenging problems. All good mathematical fun!
