The College Mace Debate

The College Mace Debate

The College Mace Debate took place on Monday 22nd of February via Microsoft Teams this year, the motion being ‘Introverts are more likely to be successful than extroverts’.  The Trotter team (Tabi H, Havana I and Alice R) were in favour of the motion and were against the Baldwin team (Ayesha A, Frances D T, and Elin J), who were arguing that extroverts are more likely to be successful. This was a new style of debate for some of us who are more used to a British Parliamentary style, but it was great to take on the challenge!

The proposition debated on the fact that introverts are more likely to possess listening skills to be successful, have more introspection and are less reliant on others. The opposition argued that extroverts are better at forming relationships and require more relevant skills aimed towards the everyday job sector (for example teamwork). It was an interesting debate, with relevant points and rebuttal coming from both sides of the argument. The skilled debaters enjoyed listening and participating in the house debate and it was a great way to practise their debating skills in a friendly environment, and compete for the ever-important house points for the Eisteddfod!
