Rotary Young Interviewer Final 2019

Last Friday 15th March, Howell’s hosted the Rotary Young Interviewer Final 2019 on behalf of the Rotary Southern Wales Region. This is a prestigious annual competition, aimed at students from Year 11-13. For this year’s competition, contestants were asked to interview Wyre Davies, BBC Investigative Reporter and former Middle East and South American Correspondent on the following statement: ‘The legalisation of all drugs is inevitable as the only practical and viable way to confront the criminality and violence of the illegal trade in narcotics’. The very perceptive and stimulating questions from the contestants led to a very interesting evening of discussion. The panel of judges, which included Nick Partridge, retired press officer for HTV; Newport District Judge Morgan Jenkins and Susie Ventris-Field, CEO of the Welsh Centre for International Affairs, found it very hard to determine the winners as the quality of the interviews was very high. We are delighted to announce that second place was awarded to Dylan P , Year 12, and first place was awarded to Akanksha S, Year 12. We would like to thank Evan T, Year 13, for also taking part and Caitlin MD, Louise S, Eleanor A, Tom W and Alex Brookes-Bent from Year 13 and Marie B, Natasha S, Megan V and Daisy S from Year 12 for supporting the evening and helping with organisation.
