Our students attend the European Youth Parliament National Session

A few weeks ago, 8 Year 12 students travelled to Liverpool for the European Youth Parliament National Session. During the four-day event, they took part in fun team-building activities to get to know the delegates from other schools in their committees.

On the first night, the organisers encouraged understanding of European cultures by asking each delegation to bring homecooked food to the EuroVillage meal. We were allocated Portugal and our spread included fish fofos, empanadas and pasteis de nata. The other delegates seemed to enjoy this; our table was cleared of food within the first 10 minutes!

The second day was spent in committees researching and formulating the resolutions which were to be debated on Saturday and Sunday. Everyone loved meeting new friends from other committees. Millie’s committee AFCO even beat the teachers in Friday evening’s quiz!

A focused and enjoyable day of debate on Saturday was complemented by a fun EuroConcert in which delegates showcased their talents, and we enjoyed karaoke, dancing and storytelling. Music was even made with materials available: pots and pans!

We very much hope that the closure of the national session will not mean the end of students’ involvement, as the European Youth Parliament has an extensive network of events across Europe, in which all are encouraged to participate. We are very proud of the Howell’s team for their selection for this prestigious event and their enthusiastic approach to all elements of the session.
