On Tuesday 3rd December we were delighted to welcome Dr Peter Randerson and John Young from the School of Bio Sciences at Cardiff University to present to our College students. They shared details of their cutting edge research into mint, which they are carrying out in conjunction with the University of Kampala in Uganda. Students learned how different varieties of mint are distilled for their essential oils with the goal of creating an insect repellent for use in Africa, where DEET is unavailable or too expensive to produce. The project works very closely with native communities in Uganda, where the project is both sustainable and eco-friendly.
