On Wednesday 9th October we were joined by Andrew Wallis, Head of School and College Partnerships at Falmouth University, and Entrepreneur and Business undergraduate, Rowan, for a day of workshops and presentations.
The first workshop was based around the twelve stage ‘Hero’s Journey’, a model now used to great effect in Enterprise education. Students had to devise a business idea and then imagine themselves in the future where the business had been a great success. They had to tell the story of their ‘journey’ with all its trials, tribulations, drama, successes and failure. Would their story be so fantastic that a Hollywood director would want to make a film about their lives? There were some interesting and innovative business ideas as well as some very entertaining stories. It was an inspirational morning.
In the second part of the day, our Year 13 students were shown how to navigate the minefield of student finances in a presentation which explored student grants and loan applications. This was followed by a very lively Q and A session. Further information can be found on the Student Finance Wales website : https://www.studentfinancewales.co.uk/.
A lunchtime workshop looking at Fashion courses was well attended by students from Years 11-13. This explored all facets of the Fashion industry from dyeing and weaving fabric to designing, marketing and merchandising. Students had the opportunity to see samples of undergraduate work and to talk about various growth markets such as sportswear and the design of period costumes for film and TV.
