The new College Creative Writing group met for the first time last Wednesday. The aim of the group is to make space to be creative and for students to learn university level creative writing skills. The group is run by Mrs Persson, who is also studying for an M.A in Creative Writing at Swansea University. This week, students looked at a poems by Caleb Femi, Kayo Chingonyi and Holly Pester, whose works appear in the Forward Book of Poetry 2022. Students then wrote a response to the poems; it was amazing what they came up with in ten minutes! For those who were feeling inspired, there was an option to include a reflection on the creative process, and to enter the English and Media Centre Young Critics competition. The poetry produced was of an excellent standard from an impressive group of participants.
