Bristol Schools Debating Competition January 2020

Bristol Schools Debating Competition January 2020

On Saturday 25th January, our keen College debaters headed to Bristol University, joining  72 competitors from a variety of schools from the South West and Midlands for the annual Bristol Schools Debating Competition, a British Parliamentary competition for school students. The competition consisted of rounds of debating followed by a final; an amazing opportunity for students to improve in BP debating, public speaking and oracy skills —especially as feedback was given by some of the best university debaters.

In the novice final, two of the four teams were made up of students from Howell's, with one team from Cardiff Sixth Form College and another from the Royal Grammar School Worcester. After four rounds of debate, Frances DT and Ayesha A, Year 12, were the winning novice team and Chris L and Ella WC, Year 13, were the runners up.

In the open debates Ella came 6th out of 72 competitors, and of the novice debaters Ella was 2nd, Frances 4th and Chris 6th.

Congratulations to all our debaters!
